Announcements
A Call for Submissions
In launching the new journal of dogmatic theology, Promissio, we have organized the first two issues in-house (April 2026, submissions due date: February 1) to establish the tone and content of the journal in accord with the editorial philosophy.
Next we intend to open up the submission process for the ensuing issues with the announcement of their themes as follows:
The July 2026 issue (submissions due date: May 1):
Why is Scripture the base language of faith? (an opportunity to renew dogmatic theology as theological exegesis of Scripture).
The October 2026 issue (submissions due date: August 1):
How do creeds and confessions provide the grammar of the scriptural language of faith? (an opportunity to articulate the confessing tradition in which the journal stands).
Quarterly publication is scheduled for January, April, July, and October; submissions for each issue are always due two months prior. We intend to publish within the variety of disciplines, particularly dogmatics, historical theology in both the Christian tradition and biblical studies, and missiology (traditionally regarded as pastoral theology or practical theology). Submissions should seek to relate to the announced theme of the issue for which it is submitted.
We also seek contributions to a non-theme regular feature: “A Book Worth Discussing.” Building on the format and structure of the standard review essay, these contributions should seek to elaborate and explore the implications the book contains, positive and negative, for theology and proclamation in the tradition of Luther.
We will also regularly publish symposiums especially on books closely related to our purposes and authored by our faculty. In the works are a symposium on Dennis Ngien’s God’s Most Earnest Purpose, forthcoming from Fortress. We need one more contributor for this symposium, please volunteer if interested. Additionally we are preparing another symposium on the English-language translation Oswald Bayer’s Promissio for sometime in 2027. Volunteers invited.
The themes for 2027:
- The doctrine and proclamation of the Fatherhood of God
- The doctrine and proclamation of the divine Sonship of Jesus
- The doctrine and proclamation of the personhood of the Holy Spirit
- The doctrine and proclamation of the Holy Trinity
Please send all manuscript submissions to me as a Word document, attached in an email to hinlicky@roanoke.edu. Prospective authors need also carefully review the journal’s philosophy and instructions for submission on the journal’s website as well as register online by establishing a username and password in order to submit and publish an article. As General Editor I will initially screen submissions before we submitting them to a gradually more intensifying peer review process. We also need to identify prospective authors outside of the immediate ILT faculty. For this purpose please nominate individuals (include email and an explanation of your nomination), and send to me. —PRH
